Day 1 - It is time to travel ...

We are sitting at the gate ... Gate 18, waiting to board our flight. Our plane has just arrived.  

It has been a busy week but we will board our plane knowing that Alan is resting at peace following a beautiful celebration this morning.

We are flying Singapore Airlines ... so first to Singapore where we have a connecting flight on to Beijing. For the first time in Our Adventurous Life I feel a little under prepared but with Ian by my side  ... we will soon move into adventure mode.

    Oh here we go exploring your posts, Enjoy the trip, I am also flying with Singapore Airlines and have a three-night stopover in Singapore on my way home, James always told me it was the best airlines to fly with and Singapore is stunning. I cannot wait to read your daily blogs Jacqui.

Day 13 - And we thought yesterday’s mountains were amazing

Today was our last day in Zhangjiajie so we needed to be up early to pack our cases, have breakfast, checkout, and meet Kaia (yes I spelt it incorrectly yesterday) at 7.30 in the lobby.  We were there early ... (well come on you aren't really surprised by that are you?). So we hopped straight into the minivan when our driver arrived.  Our first stop today was to visit the Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge. This was about a 20 minute drive from our hotel so we sat back to enjoy the view.  The bridge was opened in 2016 and is 430 metres long and 6 metres wide. It has massive suspension cables holding it up ... and Kaia told us it had been earthquake tested and buses had driven over it.  The bridge is 300 metres above the ground  ... a deep ravine between two mountain cliffs in the National Forest Park. We arrived at the bridge, popped our protective booties on and then began the walk over (and back). Ian is terrified of heights so he focussed on just crossing the bridge .....

Day 11 - Farewell MV Victoria Jenna

Today was our last boat day ... well technically our last breakfast and then we had to leave the boat! Last night we packed our bags and dropped them down to reception where they would be transferred for us to this morning’s final destination where we would meet our afternoon guide and driver to take us to Zhangjiajie.  This morning though we ate our last meal, said a fond farewell to Hilda our dining room attendant and went down to meet up with our tour group for the morning excursion. We had been told that we wouldn't have time to do the "extra" excursion we really wanted to do ... but Britney (the onboard Wendy Wu representative) and Steven the River Guide on the boat made some phone calls on our behalf and so we were able to go!   The extra bit of the tour was to go on a tourist boat that would travel on the ship lift to navigate the changing water levels of to the Three Gorges Dam. Day 9 - On board the Victoria Jenna

Last night I left you on board the bus that was taking us to the port of Fengdu to join our Yangtze cruise on the Victoria Jenna. It was a two hour bus ride (with a brief stop for the Happy Room aka toilet along the way). As we neared the end of our journey the heavens opened and we were blessed with a torrential storm. Heavy rain and lightning that lit up the sky made for an interesting final half hour. Even more so when we arrived at the port with water flooding the road (think monsoonal rain and you are on the right track).  Staff from our boat were on hand to provide us with rain ponchos and large tarps to cover our bags. As we stepped off the bus … take a leap of faith to cross the flooded gutter … we headed towards the port. Descending over 100 flooded stairs (waterfall) huddled in our cheap plastic coats with our hand luggage held close to our chests, with more staff with torches and umbrellas lining the stairs … shouting “watch the step … watch the step…”.
